Have you ever dreamed of living in another country?

When on vacation, how often do you start looking at real estate listings? You fall in love with a place and want to spend all your time there.

Let me tell you, I know the feeling. Cicely and I have fallen in love with oh so many places over the years and I want to be there, in each of those places, all of the time. And it is especially tempting when house prices are often so reasonable compared to the US market.

I always check the listings and I’ve also developed a secret obsession with house and barn renovation videos where decrepit structures are turned into dream homes. I’ve watched such YouTube videos from France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, UK, and even Norway. (As an example, Check Out This One from Italy.)

If you have similar dreams of living overseas, my recommendation to you is DO IT! Gazing into a country and culture for a week is both fun and instructional, but when you can live somewhere for a year or longer, you are able to see and understand things in a way that a week can’t accomplish. There is so much about a new culture that just isn’t obvious. It takes time to see it.

Yes, forever is a very long time. So is a year. It isn’t always feasible. But a month is not that long and three months isn’t that much longer. A year would be better, but you can learn and see quite a lot in a month. And in this age of Airbnbs, a month’s rental is easy to book.

Here at Travel Fever, we love it when folks travel with us. And we also have a wish. Our wish is that you love the place we visit so much that you return there on your own to stay for a month, for three months, or even a lifetime.
