TRIP REPORT: Walking the coast of Scotland

In early September our group had a fabulous walk in Scotland that I wanted to share with you. The walking was good, the sun graced us almost every day, and the Scotts were wonderful (even if they were a bit difficult to understand).

After a short train ride from Edinburgh, we walked eastward on sections of the Fife Coastal Trail, moving along the coastline from one small village harbor to the next, passing some striking golf courses, a castle or two, and impressive beaches and cliffs. We stayed in a grand old mansion converted into a hotel. Personally, I took it upon myself to learn as much as possible about the 300+ types of Scotch served throughout Scotland.

From there we visited St Andrews before continuing further north to the coast between Aberdeen and Inverness, an area which is less settled and the sea is more wild. There we spend much time watching the Northern Gannets dive like missiles into the sea for fish. They let loose from up to 40 feet above the water, hitting the water at over 50 miles an hour.

We are planning another walking trip in Scotland in September 2027, this time on the west coast, visiting the Isle of Mull and elsewhere. If you wish us to notify you of this trip once online, Use Our Advance Notice Request Form.
