Trip Report: Walking the Rhine River in Germany
As I write this, we’re on the last day of our RheinSteig walk in Germany. Frankly, I wasn’t fully sure what to expect, as this is our first tour in Germany.
I’m pleased to report that it far exceeded all expectations.
I’m not sure where to start. The weather was great, mostly with sun and temperatures in the sixties. The hotels were welcoming and comfortable, and the food was topnotch. And the views along the Rhine valley were breathtaking. The walking had a few steep climbs, but by and large our way through open fields and forest was pleasing, as were the sections through the vineyards with green and red grapes ready to be picked. The vines were on unbelievably steep slopes.
We took nearly every type of transportation on this trip (except for cars). We rode trains, chairlifts, tour boats and ferries. And of course we walked.
They say that a photo is worth a thousand words, so let’s look at some photos from this week (click to enlarge any photo).
