Join us for a pastel workshop in April 2020 as we work with award-wining instructor Karen Baker, CPS, PSA, PSTB. This week-long, plein air workshop in Dunedin, on the Gulf coast just north of Tampa, is our first in Florida. We have carefully selected both the location and the instructor to ensure that you both create great art and enjoy the sunny seashore while much of the rest of the US suffers through winter.

Join artist-instructor Karen Baker as she paints what inspires her the most — the world of nature and its ever-changing landscape.

We will be flying into Tampa airport, an easy and inexpensive flight from most places in the US, and staying at a lovely hotel close to Karen's studio. We will be painting shorelines, quaint Florida villages, tropical landscapes, sunsets and marinas as we explore this northern coast of Florida. Maybe go see manatees!

Karen Baker has been a professional artist and instructor for over 35 years.  She paints both in the studio and outdoors en plein air and has participated in many juried regional and national shows where she’s received awards and recognition for her artwork as well as from international art magazine competitions, including The Artist’s Magazine and The Pastel Journal.

Her portfolio covers a range of subjects from the lowland waterways and coastal shorelines of Florida to the rural farm buildings, meadows and mountain vistas of New England. She is also known for her colorful floral paintings, particularly the prolific Poppy Series featuring blooms in open fields, garden settings, and detailed close-up studies. To date, the Poppy Series alone has produced over 160 original paintings—becoming her signature image and symbolic self-portrait.  Many of these original paintings are now available as quality fine art reproductions printed on canvas for both the home and business environments.

She has the distinction of being a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society, Pastel Society of America, and the Pastel Society of Tampa Bay.  Her artwork is in many private collections around the US and abroad, including England and Japan.

An ongoing exhibitor in regional and national shows, she is represented by galleries in New England and Florida and maintains a year-round studio at Stirling Art Studios & Gallery in Dunedin, Florida. Karen’s website is at: KBakerStudios.com

The most exciting aspect of the painting experience is the creative process itself: That spontaneous flow of energy working through the artist, condensed into form.
