Join Travel Fever Tours in 2019 for an expanded birding tour of southern Spain. Over the course of 10 days you will have the unique opportunity to observe raptors and other species as they migrate north from Africa through Spain to northern Europe.

The tour will be led by a professional Spanish guide, among the best in Spain, who will also provide you with a window into local history and culture.

This tour will move northward, focusing on three main areas in western Spain. The first three-night stop of the tour will enable you to explore the Tarifa area, the extreme southwest point of Spain. Here one finds the Straits of Gibraltar, where Africa lies less than 8 miles across the channel that connects the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. This is an important crossing point for raptors migrating between Europe and Africa, in fact the only crossing point for raptors west of Turkey. Many other species also use this migration route.

The second area lies a few hours further north, between the Portuguese border and Seville. This is where you find Doñana National Park, renowned for its endemic bird life and an important stopping point for birds as they migrate through to northern Europe.

The third area lies in Extremadura, further north along the Portuguese border.  This thinly populated region is comprised of farmland and natural areas that support the area’s 300 bird species. With areas of varied elevation (up to 8,000 feet) and ecosystems, the area has much to offer birdwatchers, from Black Vultures and Imperial Eagles, to a wide array of smaller species.

We team with Wild Doñana to bring you the top, professional guides in Western Spain and the local knowledge to ensure you get the most of this spring migration from Africa.
